Shale-gas potential from Cretaceous succession in South Africa’s Orange Basin: Insights from integrated geochemical evaluations

چکیده
Shale sediments were collected from four Cretaceous stratigraphic units across explorations well locations in South Africa’s Orange Basin and analysed to determine organic-matter characteristics, such as amount, quality, thermal maturity, their viability gas resources. The geochemical results show that the shales contain moderate organic quantities, shown by TOC averagely up 1.29%. facies consist primarily of Type III kerogen, proven alongside low hydrogen indexes between 40 133 mg HC/g TOC. As seen under a reflected light microscope, dominance land plant-rich matter is harmony with significant amount Vitrinite macerals. These can produce when they mature. geological properties sediments, chiefly generate both wet dry gas, particularly adequate maturity enhanced at deeper locations. Thus, considered promising for shale exploration production.

Extraction of natural gas by hydraulic fracturing of the Middle Devonian Marcellus Shale, a major gas-bearing unit in the Appalachian Basin, results in significant quantities of produced water containing high total dissolved solids (TDS). We carried out a strontium (Sr) isotope investigation to determine the utility of Sr isotopes in identifying and quantifying the interaction of Marcellus Form...
متن کاملForecasting long-term gas production from shale.
Oil and natural gas from deep shale formations are transforming the United States economy and its energy outlook. Back in 2005, the US Energy Information Administration published projections of United States natural gas supply that stressed the need to develop an import infrastructure (1): by 2025, imports would account for almost one-third of United States consumption. When we compare those fo...
متن کامل[Chemical hazards arising from shale gas extraction].
The development of the shale industry is gaining momentum and hence the analysis of chemical hazards to the environment and health of the local population is extreiely timely and important. Chemical hazards are created during the exploitation of all minerals, but in the case of shale gas production, there is much more uncertainty as regards to the effects of new technologies application. Americ...
